About this Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer that is involved with the development, testing, and maintenance of the software used at FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) events. This person will collaborate with the FRC Engineering team to prototype, configure, test, and release software for event management and scoring.  If you enjoy producing creative solutions to complex problems, have a healthy interest in software development and prototyping, and enjoy collaboration and supporting team members, this role is for you!

Reports to: FIRST Robotics Competition Electrical Engineering Manager.  This role is an entry level software engineer position located in Manchester, NH


The Details

  • Participate in the design and development of the annual FRC game from concept to launch
  • Develop test routines to evaluate software user interfaces operated by FRC volunteers.
  • Author training and software documentation
  • Collaborate with field staff and volunteers to evaluate or diagnose software problems and recommend possible solutions.
  • Develop and refine scoring applications
  • Perform software verification and validation testing
  • Create solutions to design problems through the application of engineering principles, analysis, and empirical methods
  • Support events and volunteers through in-person training and online technical questions
  • Provide necessary customer service to suppliers, teams, community supporters and/or key customer contacts


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Requires BS/ BA or work experience in an engineering related discipline
  • Experience in programming and development of Microsoft Visual C#, Microsoft .NET Framework, .NET Core, Microsoft SQL Server, and REST APIs
  • Experience working with Visual Studio 2017 or newer
  • Working knowledge of IP-based networking
  • Beginner to intermediate technical writing skills
  • Familiarity with Scrum/Agile product development practices
