About this Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who applies both learned mechanical and technical knowledge to support the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Engineering team to help develop, prototype and test the FRC game and field components.  This position will be involved with the final design and documentation of all mechanical aspects of the FRC Field.  If you enjoy producing creative solutions to complex problems, have a healthy interest in mechanical design and prototyping, and enjoy collaboration and supporting team members, this is the role for you.

Reports to: Manager, Mechancial Engineering  This role is located in Manchester, NH.

The Details

  • Design, analyze and test components used in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
  • Collaborate with other engineering staff to create training documentation used by volunteers to run FRC events.
  • Contribute to the FRC game design process by creating prototypes, aiding in game discussion and designing/building demonstration robots.
  • Manage and document requirements, specifications, and procedures to ensure goals are clearly understood and met. 
  • Support in-house resources and other staff members as needed. Help develop project goals, manage schedules, plan and support budgetary guidelines working with the Mechanical Engineering Manager. 
  • Work within the FRC Engineering Group to build in-house capacity to assure adequate product testing, including reliability, compliance with specifications, and applicability to task.
  • Develop methods that support future expansion of FIRST in size and scope.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred, in engineering related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years directly related experience
  • Incumbent must have a history of successfully meeting specifications and cost, timing and reliability targets.
  • Must have proficiency in programs such as: SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or other parametric CAD program. CAM experience a plus.
  • Experience with CAD Simulation a plus.
  • Experience with Lathes, Bridgeport Mills, and TIG Welding a plus.
